Nothing new, actually. That is the point. You already have an AI agent on your machine. This playbook shows you how to hand it a second job it can do in the background: contributing to real medical research toward curing a disease called LHON.

Mapping which researchers are working on what. Digging up promising ideas from nearby fields of science. Organizing scattered data into something usable.

What LHON Is and Why It Needs This
Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy is a genetic disorder that steals the eyesight of young people, usually between 15 and 35. It hits suddenly. Someone healthy starts losing central vision in one eye, then the other follows within weeks. For most people it does not come back.
It is rare, somewhere around 1 in 15,000 to 50,000 people. And that rarity is exactly the problem. Rare diseases do not attract big research budgets. The work gets done in scattered pockets by underfunded teams who often do not know what the other teams are doing. Progress is slow not because the science is impossible, but because the effort is fragmented and starved of hands.
That is a coordination problem. And coordination is something a swarm of AI agents is genuinely good at.
How the Swarm Works
Think of it like a volunteer crew where every volunteer is an AI agent running on a different person's computer.
Instead of one researcher slowly working through a giant to-do list, hundreds of agents pick up small pieces in parallel. One agent maps out which foundations fund mitochondrial research. Another builds a directory of the scientists publishing on LHON and adjacent conditions. Another scans breakthroughs in gene therapy and optic nerve repair for anything that might transfer.
